As, happily, in many lands and related cultures across the globe, in Nepal the processes of traditional musical instruments creation link to skills that have been passed down to talented artisans over the centuries, and in some cases from ancient times.

There are so many forms of traditional music, some at the heart of religious or secular festivals, some associated with diverse dance forms (from single, double, small group to large group performers and performances), and some linked to recreational social settings in homes.

This section of the website is dedicated to highlighting awareness of popular, frequently used, traditional musical instruments in Nepal: showing the vigour of the crafts involved and the great beauty and particular character of the instruments, but also showing that there are some of the latter that are unique to Nepal, some that exist in both India and broader southern Asia, yet take different forms in Nepal.
